Your Conversation with Allah: The Best Duas for Tawaf and Sa’ee

Duas for Tawaf & Sa’ee

The heart of Umrah and Hajj beats with two profoundly beautiful acts of worship: the Tawaf, the sevenfold circumambulation of the Holy Kaaba, and the Sa’ee, the seven laps between the hills of Safa and Marwa. These are not merely physical rituals; they are a walking prayer, a moving conversation with Allah (SWT), where every step is an opportunity for supplication.

While there is no mandatory list of duas you must recite, the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) have left us with beautiful supplications that connect us to the rich history and spiritual depth of these rites. Knowing them can transform your experience from a silent walk into a heartfelt dialogue with your Creator.

As you focus on preparing your heart for this conversation, allow umrah.cab to handle the worldly journey. Arriving at the Haram refreshed and stress-free is the perfect state of mind to begin your worship.

Duas for Tawaf: Circling the House of Allah

As you move with the sea of believers around the Kaaba, your heart should be filled with awe and humility. This is the time to pour your heart out.

1. At the Starting Point (Hajar al-Aswad – The Black Stone)

Each of the seven circuits begins and ends at the Hajar al-Aswad. As you align with it, you can touch or kiss it if possible without harming others, or simply face it and gesture with your right hand. Each time you begin a new circuit, you recite the Takbir.

Bismillahi, Wallahu Akbar.

Translation:

2. The Most Beloved Dua Between the Corners

The space between the Yemeni Corner (Ar-Rukn Al-Yamani) and the Black Stone holds a special place. The Prophet (ﷺ) would consistently recite the following comprehensive dua in this section of every circuit:

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Rabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ‘adhāb an-nār.

Translation:

3. During the Rest of the Tawaf

For the remainder of each of the seven circuits, there are no fixed duas you must recite. This is your personal time with Allah. You can:

  • Recite Dhikr:
  • Send Salawat on the Prophet (ﷺ):
  • Ask for Forgiveness:
  • Recite the Qur’an:
  • Make Personal Dua:

Duas for Sa’ee: Re-enacting a Mother’s Struggle

The Sa’ee between the hills of Safa and Marwa commemorates the desperate search for water by Hajar (AS), the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), for her infant son Ismail (AS). It is a powerful lesson in faith, perseverance, and Allah’s ultimate provision.

1. Upon Reaching Safa

When you first ascend the hill of Safa, face the Kaaba, raise your hands, and recite the following:

First, declare what is mentioned in the Qur’an:

إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ

Innas-Safā wal-Marwata min sha‘ā’irillāh.

Translation:

Then say:

Abda’u bimā bada’allāhu bih.

Translation:

After this, face the Kaaba and recite the following three times, making personal duas in between each recitation:

Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar. Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu wa huwa ‘alā kulli shay’in qadīr. Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdah, anjaza wa‘dah, wa naṣara ‘abdah, wa hazamal-aḥzāba waḥdah.

Translation:

2. Between Safa and Marwa

As you walk between the two hills, it is another opportunity for open-ended, heartfelt dua. When you reach the area marked by green lights, it is Sunnah for men to hasten their pace. During this section, it is recommended to recite:

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ، وَأَنْتَ الأَعَزُّ الأَكْرَمُ

Rabbighfir warḥam, wa Antal-A‘azzul-Akram.

Translation:

3. Upon Reaching Marwa

When you reach the hill of Marwa, you should face the Kaaba and repeat the same supplications you recited at Safa. You will do this at the end of each of the seven laps.
